Gunners keeper does not want the armband right now
Keeper Wojciech Szczesny has denied stating he deserves to be Arsenal's captain while he also insists his absence for Poland is genuine.
The 21-year-old recently remarked that he wants to be 'the captain of the team' although he meant at some point in his career and not immediately.
Holland international Robin van Persie is currently the Arsenal captain and Szczesny feels the talented striker is doing a good job with the armband.
Annoyed
"I got annoyed with a few things about myself in the media recently so I'm going to set the record straight," Szczesny wrote on
Twitter.
"I never said I deserve the Arsenal armband. I said that I would love to one day take the responsibility of being an Arsenal skipper. RVP [Robin van Persie] is doing a great job as a skipper and he fully deserves the armband."
Eyebrows have also been raised over Szczesny's withdrawal from the Poland squad for two upcoming friendlies with a back injury, something he insists is genuine.
"I am injured and had to be pulled out of Polish national team. I hope to recover as soon as possible," he continued.
And he mocked the speculation linking him with a move away from Arsenal: "Please continue the 'Szczesny to Barcelona' rumours. Makes me laugh every time I read it!"
