Lukas Podolski says next year’s European Championship finals in France will be the last summer tournament of his career.

And the Arsenal striker, who is currently on loan at Inter Milan, admits he would be happy to see England end their 50-year wait for a major title.

Regarding his international future, Podolski told Germany’s Bild newspaper: "I've already achieved my biggest goal of winning the World Cup and nobody can take that from me now.

"The European Championship will be the last major tournament for me. There is another three years to the next World Cup."

As for backing England in France, he said: "I would not begrudge the Brits the title. They would deserve it.

"They love and live for football. It's fantastic to play football there.”
