Tony Bellew looked ahead to the Merseyside derby on Soccer AM

Everton fan Tony Bellew admits he is "dreading" the Merseyside derby, but says Marco Silva is "quietly confident" ahead of the game.

Everton are on an 18-match winless run against Liverpool, including a last-gasp defeat in December after Divock Origi scored in injury-time.

Ahead of their meeting on Sunday, live on Sky Sports, former world cruiserweight champion Bellew revealed he met Everton boss Silva on Thursday and he was "quietly confident".

But, speaking on Soccer AM, he added: "Usually form goes out the window in these games. I still can't get that Origi moment out of my mind. I am dreading it.

"You can't not admire the football Liverpool play, they are one of the best teams in the world to watch, they are amazing going forward.

"In Virgil van Dijk they have exactly what they needed and what they were missing, a leader, they haven't had a leader like him since Steven Gerrard.

"They have got quality from back to front, although they are missing something in the middle of the park, and hopefully they don't find it!"

Bellew also says he hopes Everton will take some confidence into the game from their midweek 3-0 win at Cardiff.

"I used to like these derbies when I was younger because we got a result now and again, but we are a decade overdue," he said.

"I have been thinking about it since we won in midweek, it hasn't left my mind, hopefully the result in midweek will carry into the game and we get a result. Nothing would please me more."
