Nugent: I'm staying

Preston North End striker David Nugent says he will see out his contract with the club.

Preston North End striker David Nugent has declared that he will remain with the Championship side until the end of his current contract.

The former Bury hit-man has been the subject of interest from boyhood idols Everton, even though Lilywhites boss Billy Davies has insisted he will not be moving on from Deepdale in the near future.

With speculation surrounding his future, the 20-year-old has stated he wants to see out his current deal and is interested in extending his Preston contract.

"Billy's made it clear to me I won't be leaving in January and I'm happy with that," Nugent told the club's official website.

"There are clubs interested in me, but I'm a Preston player and hopefully, I will be for the remainder of my contract.

"I'm hopefully going to be signing a new contract and over the next few weeks there will be talk of sorting it out, so me and my agent will be looking at a new contract or an extension for more years, and I hope that I can see them all out here.

"I'm going to be a Preston player for the next two-and-a-half years, and if I sign a new contract, it will hopefully be longer."

Nugent said he was flattered by Everton's interest in him, but that the time is not right for him to leave Preston.

"Being an Everton fan, I always wanted to play for them when I was kid, so for them to be interested in me is fantastic," he added.

"But I'm still only young and I've got a lot of years left in the game, so hopefully in a few years time, when I've got more experience, I could go there."
