Everton defender Leighton Baines admits he still believed his side would beat Chelsea in the FA Cup after he missed his penalty in the shoot-out.
The Toffees travelled to Stamford Bridge on Saturday for their fourth round replay and after a 0-0 stalemate in normal time, Frank Lampard popped up in extra time to score what looked to be the winner.
However, Baines curled in a superb free-kick in the 119th minute to send the tie to a dramatic penalties decider.
Baines saw his spot-kick saved by Petr Cech but Nicolas Anelka and Ashley Cole both missed as Everton advanced past the Premier League champions.
The 26-year-old left-back was understandably disappointed to see his penalty kept out, but he remained confident his team-mates would still do the business.
"For me to miss was disappointing but walking back afterwards I sensed that we'd still win it," he told
Everton TV.
"I always fancied Tim (Howard) to make a save, he tends to do that in the shootout and I always think he'll make one or two saves.
"I believed in the rest of the lads as well and that's football and being part of the team, I played my part but when I didn't produce in the shootout the lads stepped up and took care of business."
On his fine free-kick, Baines added: "I knew the clock was ticking away at the time and it was possibly our last chance in the game so it was nice to see it go in.
"In situations like that you're in the zone and focused on what you want to do, sometimes it doesn't come off but luckily today it did.
"I always wanted to take it and I felt it was more my side as a left footer and if it was the other side I'd have let Mikel (Arteta) take it."
Everton now take on Championship side Reading in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Goodison Park on 1st March.
