Moyes eager to keep Belgian
David Moyes has revealed that he is desperate to keep Marouane Fellaini at Everton and understands the player has begun contract negotiations with the club.
The Belgian midfielder has established himself as a key player at Goodison Park since arriving from Standard Liege in a big-money deal three years ago.
Although currently sidelined with an ankle problem, Fellaini's good form this season has reportedly attracted the attention of several major European clubs.
Moyes is keen to ward off rival interest by securing the 23-year-old on a new long-term deal, and hopes chairman Bill Kenwright will push through an extension.
Building
"I think talks have started now, even though I've not spoken to Marouane personally about it," said Moyes.
"He's really important to us, part of the furniture here now, and of course we want him to stay.
"We did it with the likes of (Phil) Jagielka and (Leighton) Baines who are on long-term contracts. We want to keep building on that and obviously Marouane comes into that category.
"In the main, the chairman has done a really good job keeping hold of players, so we'll see how we go with Marouane, too."
