Midfielder setting sights higher than seventh

Everton midfielder Leon Osman has set his sights on European qualification this season. The Toffees missed out on continental competition after finishing seventh last term, despite a strong second half to the campaign. Osman is looking forward to the challenge of trying to improve in the Premier League when the new season kicks off with an away game against Tottenham on 13th August. "We've certainly got to aim for it (Europe)," Osman said after scoring in Friday night's 4-1 pre-season friendly victory at Bury. "There's no point in us not aiming for things like that and accepting second best. "We've had one pre-season friendly and one victory so far but as a group of players we are determined to do as well as we possibly can and we'll do that this season." Jermaine Beckford left the game with an injury in the second half at Gigg Lane but Osman hopes the knock is nothing to worry about. He added: "He came off so he's obviously feeling something but hopefully it's not too bad."
