Injury forced striker to consider future
Everton striker Louis Saha has revealed he considered quitting the game altogether last season after his latest injury blow.
The 33-year-old has suffered a catalogue of problems in his career but a calf strain suffered last September appeared to be the final straw.
The injury forced him out of the France international squad after earning a recall for the first time in four years and the former Fulham and Manchester United forward seriously considered calling it a day.
However, Saha decided against retiring and battled his way back to fitness, returning to goalscoring form after Christmas and helping Everton move up the table.
"(Retiring) crossed my mind after my last cap with France when I had a really bad injury," said the striker.
"It was really hard to take but now I've got older and I think I can cope more with this type of situation.
"Sometimes you feel really unlucky and that it's not made for you but I've got full confidence in myself and my ability so, while I've got the opportunity, I'm enjoying it."
Trust
Saha also urged the supporters to get behind the Everton board despite the absence of summer signings this season.
The cash-strapped Toffees are the only club in the Premier League not have signed a player, with the fans growing frustrated with the board's apparent lack of support for manager David Moyes.
Saha admits it is not ideal but revealed the players are fully behind chairman Bill Kenwright and the board and are confident of a top five finish this season, regardless of whether any new faces come in.
"They [the fans] should know the chairman and the board and the manager are trying hard," added Saha.
"They're desperate to do something but if they're not doing something it's because they've got big reasons for that. You have to trust them. We trust them as players.
"Everybody is confident we're going to do something special this season.
"We've got so many players who are good enough to show that we can break the top five this year."
