Scotland international could secure return to Goodison Park
Skysports.com understands Everton have now emerged as the favourites to sign James McFadden ahead of SPL side Celtic.
McFadden is available on a free transfer after leaving Birmingham City in the summer and is being chased by several clubs.
He recently trained with Everton's Premier League rivals Wolves and has also been offered the chance to link up with Celtic for a trial.
Toffees boss David Moyes has confirmed that he has held talks with McFadden regarding the possibility of the attacker returning to Goodison Park.
Moyes did not rule out capturing McFadden, but appeared to doubt his prospects of winning the race of the Scotland international.
However, it is understood that Everton are now at the forefront of the chase to snap up McFadden as Moyes seeks to boost his attacking options.
The 28-year-old made over 130 appearances for Everton after joining in 2003 from Motherwell before leaving for Birmingham four-and-a-half years later.
