Everton defender offers solution for team's lack of goals

John Heitinga wants Everton to take more shots at goal in an effort to solve their scoring problem. The Toffees went down 1-0 to Arsenal at Emirates Stadium and have scored only 15 goals in 14 Premier League games this season. Heitinga likes the balance of his team's squad in defence and midfield but thinks they are too reliant on youngsters up front. "We've got some young talented footballers training at the moment at Finch Farm. But you can't expect anything from them, they are young," he told the Liverpool Echo. "They need to learn. I think it's good for Conor McAleny that he got some minutes against Arsenal, and he almost scored a goal. "Tolis (Vellios) as well, he's only 19. Denis (Stracqualursi) is only just 24. We've got experienced players but they play more in the back and the middle.

Change

"We have the ball in good areas but we just don't get enough shots on goal. I think we need to change that." Heitinga's fellow Dutchman Robin van Persie continued his prolific year with a volleyed finish for Arsenal's match winner. "You can't blame anyone in our team for the goal," added Heitinga. "The ball was perfect and the finish was good, and you see that he can make a difference in one minute."
