Former Newcastle stopper happy with point against strugglers

Everton defender Sylvain Distin made a successful return from injury against Wigan and admitted he enjoyed every minute of it. The experienced centre-half had not featured for the Toffees since he limped off in the defeat at Tottenham on January 11th. Distin, though, was able to shrug off any concerns about a lack of match fitness as he produced a performance brimming with quality at the heart of defence.

Tough

"I felt good," he told the club's official website: "The end of the game was tough because I have not played much football lately. "I had an injury and then came back and had another injury and that is the first time I have had two injuries in a season. "So I was a long time out and it felt good to be back but it was very cold, there was a lot of running and I am 34 now!" Everton had been expected to claim all three points against the division's bottom club, however, the former Newcastle stopper sought to extract the positives from their 1-1 draw. "I thought we played quite well but a draw was probably fair," he said afterwards. "We came back well and conditions were difficult and the pitch was poor. I know people expected us to win but the Premier League is tough and a point away from home is okay."
