Bookmakers remain at a loss to pick a clear favourite to be the next Wolves manager, with Brian McDermott the latest in a long line of frontrunners.
The Reading manager has come in from 33/1 to
2/1 at
Sky Bet since Monday following a combination of media reports and sustained betting, replacing Lee Clark at the head of the market.
Clark became favourite after leaving Huddersfield and then not, as widely anticipated, taking the vacant managerial position at Leeds.
Brighton boss Gus Poyet (
5/1) also led the market at one point on Monday, although talk of a compensation package costing around £2million has tempered expectations.
Steve Bruce, who has been as short as evens for the post, is still considered in the frame as
Sky Bet's
11/4 second favourite after holding initial talks with Wolves owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey on Friday.
Alan Curbishley had been the strong favourite initially after having his initial interest reciprocated, but has drifted out to
25/1 following failed talks with the Molineux hierarchy.
That all means McDermott is the fifth boss to be favourite for the position, with it still very much a guessing game as to who will get the job.
McDermott took over as caretaker at the Madejski after Brendan Rodgers left and was given the job on a full-time basis in December 2009.
He led the Royals to the play-off final last season and has mounted another strong promotion challenge this season.
Sky Bet's football trader Jamie Munro said: "Talk that Wolves have asked for permission to speak with McDermott has prompted sustained backing for him to get the post.
"There is also talk that he is on a rolling contract at Reading, which would reduce compensation costs, but it still remains a wide-open market with Bruce, Clark and Poyet attracting plenty of money."
