Portsmouth look to the future by offering new deals to duo

Youngsters Joel Ward and Tom Kilbey have penned new deals at Championship side Portsmouth. Ward, a 20-year-old defender, signed a professional contract with the club back in July 2008 having spent two years in the academy and reserves. The local boy immediately joined Bournemouth on a one-year loan deal where he made 21 appearances. Ward made his Premier League debut for Portsmouth against Wigan, playing the entire match. The defender has now signed a new two-year contract to keep him at Fratton Park until 2012. Kilbey has yet to appear for the first team, however the 19-year-old has made quite an impression for the academy side and the reserve team. The midfielder joined Dagenham & Redbridge on loan last seaon, making his debut against MK Dons in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat. Ward told the club's official website: "I'm delighted to sign an extension. It's a great opportunity to progress, break into the first team and then hold onto my place. "Having been at Pompey since I was eight and having been a fan I absolutely love the club and just want to continue to be here." Kilbey added: "This is the year where I'm looking to progress. Last season a couple of the lads got a chance in the first team but now with everything that's going on and a new manager coming in, I can hopefully show him what I can do."
