Spurs linked with Robbo swoop

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR are being tipped to make a £3 million bid for Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson before the impending transfer deadline on Sunday.

Spurs manager Glenn Hoddle has been active in the transfer market all summer, adding to his striking department, and is hopeful of adding South African captain Mbulelo Mabizela to his defensive ranks, should he successfully obtain a work permit.

US international Kasey Keller was in fine form last term but landing England international Robinson would represent a massive coup for the North London boss and signal the club's intent to push for a European berth this season.

Robinson has continually been linked with a move away from Elland Road all summer, with Manchester United and Arsenal credited with an interest, while a protracted £3 million move to Aston Villa to link up with former boss David O'Leary during the summer fell through at the 11th-hour because of the keeper's personal demands.

After The Whites disappointingly lost Harry Kewell to Liverpool before the season started, the West Yorkshire outfit have been happy to let Danny Mills leave on loan to Middlesbrough.

Reports are suggesting Hoddle is ready to test Leeds` resolve with an offer for their England international keeper, but it remains to be seen if the cash-strapped Whites will let another of their stars move on from Elland Road.

In other news, Leeds boss Peter Reid is believed to be close to tying up a deal for Milan's Brazilian World Cup-winning defender Roque Junior.

The 27-year-old could make a switch to The Premiership on a season-long loan deal and is versatile enough to play at centre back and right back.

Marseille star Salomon Olembe arrived at the club on Tuesday for talks as exclusively revealed by planetfootball.com and it seems the South American stopper could soon follow suit.

Speaking after last night's 0-0 draw against Southampton at Elland Road, Reid hinted a new face could soon be on the scene.

"There will probably will be another player coming in as well as Olembe," said Reid.
