Mido hits out at Roma

Mido is determined to prove Roma were wrong to ship him out to Tottenham Hotspur.

Mido is determined to prove Roma were wrong to ship him out to Tottenham Hotspur after just six months in Serie A.

The Egypt international has joined Spurs on an 18-month loan deal and marked his debut for the club with a brace in the 3-1 win over Portsmouth on Saturday.

The 21-year-old moved to White Hart Lane after becoming frustrated at his lack of opportunities with Roma following his switch from Marseille last summer.

Roma's sporting director Franco Baldini has conceded the club erred in signing the attacker but Mido is anxious to show the Italian outfit what they are missing.

He has accused the Giallorossi of trying to ruin his career and is confident he has made the right choice in joining Spurs.

"The last period was tough and was like a bottle-neck in my career," Mido told his personal website.

"Some people in Roma tried to destroy me and didn't give me the chance to prove myself with the team.

"I'm happy with the decision I took to play for Tottenham which my heart chose. My team-mates have helped me a lot since I came to London.

"I practiced very well last week under coach Martin Jol and I thank God for the two goals.

"I am glad to be part of this great team which is considered one of England's ancient clubs."

Meanwhile, Spurs boss Jol admits he is delighted that he can employ Mido's services until the summer of 2006 without having to pay Roma a fee.

Jol said: "He wanted to come for six months and then I talked with him and he made a decision to come for 18 months.

"You cannot ask for more. We have a player for 18 months and we don't have to pay a fee."
