Tottenham midfielder unrepentant as he claims interest from elsewhere

Hossam Ghaly insists he does not regret the incident which effectively cost him his Tottenham career, while at the same time claiming interest from Sunderland and Derby. The Egyptian international is currently training back in his homeland with former club Al Ahli, as he looks to build up his fitness ahead of the African Cup of Nations in January. Ghaly hit the headlines last season when he reacted to being substituted against Blackburn back in May by throwing his shirt to the floor; in an incident that did not sit well with either the club's supporters or then manager Martin Jol. The midfield schemer has not played since, despite issuing an apology and it would now appear he is less than contrite about his actions.

Unapologetic

"It was a normal reaction, given what Tottenham did to me," he told sports.filbalad.com. "Tottenham didn't allow me to play 30 matches to receive the bonus included in my contract." At one stage Ghaly looked to be on his way to Birmingham, only for then Blues boss Steve Bruce to pull the plug on the deal, after he was left incredulous at the player's criticism of his new team-mates in training. Again, though, Ghaly believes he acted in a more than acceptable manner. "The players lacked ambition there," he added. "They were just talking about avoiding relegation." While Ghaly's days at Spurs appear to be numbered, he claims he could be back in England in January for a move away from White Hart Lane.
Interest
Confident top flight new boys Sunderland and Derby will come calling, Ghaly is weighing up his options. "They made approaches but no concrete offer has been tabled. "Things will become clear next month as the transfer window is looming. "I'm not interested in moving back to Egypt. Ahli also never said they want me back."
