Left-back overcomes unwanted personal record

Tottenham defender Gareth Bale is determined to end the season in fourth spot after overcoming a hoodoo of his own. The 20-year-old left-back started and won a game for Spurs for the first time in two-and-a-half years as his side defeated Fulham 2-0 on Tuesday. It was the first time the Wales international had been in a winning starting XI for the White Hart Lane outfit in 23 games. The victory put Spurs into fourth place in the Premier League, which is where Bale thinks they can finish the campaign. "I think this year is a big year for us," he toldThe Sun. "Fourth spot is wide open with three or four teams fighting for that place and we're one of them. "We want to keep playing as well as we can and win every game. "We've got the squad to do that and we just want to keep working hard." On overcoming his unwanted personal milestone, Bale added: "I'd rather forget about that record now. "People mentioned it but it didn't bother me." Bale, who has been enjoying a run in the team due to the absence of Benoit Assou-Ekotto, will hope to keep his place in the side when Spurs travel to Birmingham on Saturday.
