Spurs boss Redknapp gives upbeat report

Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate could finally be ready to put a year of injury hell behind him. The former England international has been battling to overcome a lingering groin problem which had thrown his career into doubt. Woodgate has not featured for the Spurs first team since the 9-1 demolition of Wigan at White Hart Lane on 22nd November 2009. The talented centre-back has visited a host of specialists across the globe in a bid to get to the bottom of his problem.

Encouraged

Harry Redknapp did not name Woodgate in his initial 25-man Premier League squad, raising questions marks over his future in North London. But the Tottenham boss has now admitted that the former Leeds, Newcastle, Real Madrid and Middlesbrough man is making positive progress. Redknapp told the Sunday Mirror: "Jonathan has worked hard, had a good month and the physios have been very encouraged by the work he's done. "He's got to go through pre-season; there's real light at the end of the tunnel. No one could have tried harder than him. Things are finally looking positive for him."
