Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino plays down Hugo Lloris talk

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted reports that Hugo Lloris could leave the club this summer are simply 'rumours' and was adamant he will fight to keep his best players.

Reports have said the France number one will review his future in the summer and wants to play in the Champions League – something Spurs are highly unlikely to be involved in next season.

Sky sources understand Spurs have no desire to sell Lloris or any other of their best players this summer and reports of a buyout clause in the keeper’s contract are false.

Pochettino suggested the club will not make significant changes to the squad this summer but will concentrate on improving specific areas and “take the right decisions”.

Ahead of Manchester City’s visit to White Hart Lane on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1HD, the Spurs boss said: “I think [the report about Lloris] is a rumour and I do not have any comment.

“I do not want to speak about rumours, about Hugo or other players. We are focused and we try to finish the season as best as possible. That rumour is impossible to stop but we need to accept it is part of the game.

“In football it is difficult. You never know. If you sign the contract you never have the guarantee. I have a contract and so do a lot of managers but there is never guarantee.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has dismissed rumours surrounding players moving both in and out of the club, including goalkeeper Hugo Lloris

“But it is true if I want some player to stay with us I fight a lot."

Sky sources understand Tottenham want to offload a number of unwanted players such as Younes Kaboul, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue and Emmanuel Adebayor, while Aaron Lennon, who is currently on loan at Everton, is also likely to leave.

“I don't know if we need big changes," Pochettino added.

"Always you can improve your squad and your game. We need to work hard to try to improve our game and our squad.

"You need to take the right decisions. It is not only if you pay money, you assure that you achieve something. It is not about money but about the right profile and the right position to build the right squad. This is our job now.”
