Thompson may miss rest of season

Blackburn Rovers fear that midfielder David Thompson could be out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery.

The former Liverpool and Coventry ace is currently recovering in the US following knee surgery at the clinic of specialist surgeon Dr Richard Steadman.

Thompson had surgery on his knee in February, but the problem has resurfaced and he has been struggling badly.

Rovers chief executive John Williams revealed the surgery had been a success, but that it could rule out the tigerish midfielder for the rest of the season.

"I have spoken with our club doctor Phil Batty, who accompanied David to the USA. He reports that David has had limited surgery, but will have to undergo a strictly focused rehabilitation regime," Williams told the club's official website.

"The long term prognosis for a full recovery is very good, but the bottom line is we are going to be without David for quite some time.

"We have to face the fact he might not even play again this season."
