Pedersen upbeat over injury

Morten Gamst Pedersen says that his ankle injury is not serious.

Morten Gamst Pedersen has allayed fears that he suffered serious injury against Portsmouth on Saturday.

The Norwegian winger was forced off an hour into Blackburn's win at Ewood Park following a crunching tackle from Andy Griffin.

There were initially fears that the youngster had suffered a serious ankle injury after collapsing again when trying to play on, but Gamst Pedersen believes the damage is only superficial.

"I was chopped down from behind by their right back, I tried to play on, but didn't have a chance," he told TV2 Nettavisen.

"It was really painful and it hurt in my ankle and around it."

Asked if the believes the problem could sideline him for some time, Gamst Pedersen replied: "No, I don't think it's too serious.

"I will take it easy this weekend, then I hope to be back for the training session on Monday."

Gamst Pedersen was replaced by Matt Jansen and the switch reaped dividends as the striker netted the winner over Pompey.

The Norwegian was pleased for his team-mate and does not believe his place is in jeopardy under new boss Mark Hughes.

"That goal was just fun," said Gamst Pedersen. "Jansen got enormous support when he came on, and the roof was almost lifted off after the goal.

"Everyone thought he deserved this after the accident and all what he has been through since then.

"At the same time Jansen is a striker, I'm a winger."

Gamst Pedersen believes he will get more opportunities to shine under new boss Hughes.

"I feel that Hughes seems more offensive in his mind than Souness was, I appreciate that," he added. "Also, he seems like a calmer type."
