Hughes hopes for Sav quick fix

Mark Hughes hopes to have Robbie Savage back before the end of the season.

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes hopes to have injury stricken midfielder Robbie Savage back before the end of the season.

The former Wales international had been expected to miss the remainder of the Premiership campaign after breaking his right fibula in a challenge with Watford's Alhassan Bangura at the end of January.

With fellow midfielder Steven Reid also set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the injury to Savage is a big blow for Hughes as he attempts to maintain Rovers' challenge on three fronts.

However, the Ewood Park chief has now revealed that his much-derided star could well return before the conclusion of the current campaign.

"There's a hope that Robbie might be back. That target is there for him," said Hughes in The Sun.

"If he works hard and everything goes to plan, there is no reason he can't come back."
