South African midfielder considers Blackburn future
Aaron Mokoena says he will be 'better off' leaving Blackburn Rovers, if he is not playing regularly.
The midfielder has started just six games in the Premier League this season and has never been a fixture in Mark Hughes' side in three years at Ewood Park.
He has previously seen a transfer request rejected and the 27-year-old concedes he may again have to consider his future at the club.
"There was only one transfer request," Mokoena told the
Daily Mail. "They rejected it. Now it's about waiting to see what's going to happen.
Needs to play
"I emphasised that I need more games. If I can't get them with Blackburn, I would be better off leaving.
"My point was clear. I am captain of South Africa. I need to be playing.
"The manager said I should take it easy, that I would play and he gave me a couple of games. To be fair to him, he is in a difficult situation. We all want to play."
Mokoena will be playing for his country at the African Cup of Nations next month and he is unsure when he will be leaving for the tournament.
Busy schedule
He added: "Fifa rules say it's two weeks before and Blackburn have a busy schedule. I want to leave as late as possible.
"But we have a friendly in South Africa before we go to Ghana. He (South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira) might need the whole squad for that game.
"If I am still playing here, I will be match fit."
