Rovers striker has respect for Latics after netting against old club

Blackburn striker Jason Roberts admitted 'it wasn't a good thing' to have scored against his old club Wigan, but he had a job to do. The 32-year-old, who played for the Latics between 2004-06, climbed off the bench to notch the 67th minute winner and secure a vital three points for Rovers at Ewood Park. While he refused to celebrate the goal, afterwards the striker - who missed a golden chance in the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea the game before - admitted he was glad to be back on the score sheet. He told Sky Sports: "I feel happy, it's good to get back on the pitch playing games and scoring goals." Asked if it was a good or bad thing to score against his former club, he replied: "It wasn't a good thing, I've got a lot of respect for Wigan and I had a lot of great times there so it certainly wasn't a good thing but I'm doing a job and we got three points today."

Belief

He added he had been fit and raring to go for a while and is always confident in his ability to score goals. "You always think when you're on the pitch you'll do well and you'll score goals as I did today," he said, adding the result was a bit of a game changer for Rovers. "We've been playing well and not winning - I don't think we've played very well today but we won the game and at the end of the day we would prefer to be on that side of the fence." He added: "It's good to win the game, get the three points and - on a personal note - good to score a goal."
