Argentine youngster becomes Rovers' fourth signing this month

Blackburn have signed Argentinian attacking midfielder Mauro Formica on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The 22-year-old old arrives at Ewood Park from native club Newell's Old Boys for an undisclosed fee which is thought to be in the region of £3.5million. Formica, who has penned a contract to keep him at Rovers until the summer of 2014, becomes manager Steve Kean's fourth signing of this month's transfer window after Roque Santa Cruz, Jermaine Jones and Ruben Rochina. "Mauro is a fantastic talent, an attacking player who has been in great demand," Kean told Rovers' official website. "He has great technical ability and is a typical Argentinian with a bit of fight and a bit of devilment in him. "He's an exciting talent and I must say that this transfer window has progressed really well for us." Formica, nicknamed 'Gato' - 'Cat' - was a product of the Newell's Old Boys' youth system and made over 80 appearances for the club since turning professional in 2006 at the age of 18. The attacking midfielder has also been capped at Under-17 level by Argentina.
