Joleon Lescott has invited an Aston Villa fan to voice his displeasure in person after the defender was criticised for his actions on social media.
Lescott was in the Villa team thrashed 6-0 by Liverpool at home in the Premier League on Saturday, a result which had many supporters leaving long before the final whistle.
Shortly after the game, the former Everton and Manchester City defender tweeted a picture of a Mercedes car worth more than £120,000.
It was followed by an apology which included an admission there was a lack of commitment from Villa's players against Liverpool.
Lescott said: "I'm not one for tweeting after games whether it's a good, bad or indifferent result but I would like to apologise for the performance today, personally and collectively.
"Liverpool are and were better than us today but that doesn't excuse mine and the team's (sic) lack of commitment for the 90 minutes. Again, apologies to all the fans.
"The tweet sent out from my account involving the picture of a car was totally accidental. It happened whilst driving and my phone was in my pocket."
Lescott's statement further enraged many agitated fans and attracted a number of insults and abuse.
He responded to one person saying he should meet him at the club's Bodymoor Heath training ground to express his feelings face to face.
Lescott said on his Instagram account: "I'm at the training ground tomorrow. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come down and try. FACT YOU WON'T."
The 33-year-old has been a regular for Villa this season under both Remi Garde and previous manager Tim Sherwood, making 21 appearances and scoring twice.
He joined the club last summer from Midlands rivals West Brom for £2m having started his career at nearby Wolves.
