Sky Sports News understands Aston Villa have agreed a £4million fee with Wigan for Emile Heskey.
Heskey's future has been the subject of speculation for some time with the player's current contract due to expire in the summer.
Villa and Heskey's former club Liverpool have been strongly linked with the England international, but it appears the Midlands club have won the race for his signature.
Wigan have reluctantly decided to cash in on the 31-year-old rather than risk losing him for nothing in the summer.
Heskey is expected to hold talks with Villa boss Martin O'Neill later on Friday and if all goes to plan he should then seal a deal to be reunited with his former Leicester chief.
