Experienced frontman confident recent wobble can be overcome
John Carew insists a double festive setback will not be allowed to undermine Aston Villa's season.
Martin O'Neill's men entered the Christmas period in buoyant mood, with four consecutive victories leaving them inside the UEFA Champions League places.
However, a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and a gut-wrenching 1-0 setback against Liverpool has seen them slip to sixth in the rankings.
Villa will be mindful that an alarming slump at a similar stage of the season last year ultimately put paid to their lofty aspirations.
Carew is wary of allowing that situation to repeat itself, but believes the Villans have learnt from past experiences and are better quipped to sustain a top four challenge this time around.
"To lose in injury-time like that against Liverpool was very disappointing," said the Norway striker.
Positive
"We deserved at least a draw. The most important thing is not to lose the games.
"We have had two losses in a row but we've still got lots to look forward to - and this little sequence is not going to break us.
"We are going to come back from this. We've had a great season until now, we are also in the semi-finals of the Carling Cup, and we have to get back on track."
Carew added: "It's important to stay positive, it's very important, and we're going to do that in the next game.
"We have to learn from last season and I'm sure we have done, so I hope and think that this season's going to be different.
"We're going to get over this disappointment as quick as we can."
