Striker needs operation

Aston Villa have confirmed that Emile Heskey needs knee surgery which will rule him out for around a month. Heskey has been very much back in favour since Gerard Houllier took charge at Villa Park, but he is now out of action until December after damaging his knee in training on Wednesday. Villa have confirmed that Heskey tore the medial meniscus in his right knee and surgery is needed to rectify the problem.

Blow

Heskey has scored three goals in his last six games and his absence will be a blow to Houllier, who is already without Gabriel Agbonlahor. "Emile Heskey will miss the clash with Fulham after picking up a knee injury," read a club statement. "Heskey tore the medial meniscus in his right knee yesterday in training [Wednesday] with no other player involved in the incident. "The injury will require an operation and he faces between three to four weeks out of action."
