On-loan Spurs defender would be happy to come back in summer

Kyle Walker has refused to rule out returning to Aston Villa after a successful loan from Tottenham. The 20-year-old right-back impressed on loan at Championship leaders QPR in the first half of the season, convincing Villa boss Gerard Houllier to agree a similar deal with Spurs in January. Walker has only made three Premier League appearances for his parent club since signing from Sheffield United in July 2009 but he has proved with Villa he can cut it in the top flight, earning a first senior call-up for England in February. The pacy defender is unsure if he will now be part of Harry Redknapp's plans next season, but if the Spurs boss intends to let him leave White Hart Lane again, Walker would be happy to return to Villa Park if they can guarantee regular first-team action. "That's really not up to me. That's really for the two clubs to decide. I'm just happy playing football," he told the Express & Star. "I've enjoyed my time here. Whatever the two managers decide to do, that's up to them. "If the gaffer down there tells me I've got to go and play there, he's my gaffer and I've got to go and play there. It's his word.

Dilemma

"It's a difficult one. I want to play for Tottenham because I wouldn't have signed there if I didn't think I could play there. "Also, I want to play football, so I just don't know. I'm just going to have to wait until the summer and see what the two managers decide. "I just want to play football. If I'm playing football, that's all I'm bothered about. I don't mind if it's Villa or Tottenham or whoever else. "Football's a mad game, you never know what's going to happen." Walker made only seven first-team appearances for Sheffield United before signing for Tottenham and he immediately returned to Bramall Lane on loan.
Welcoming
Spurs recalled him midway through last season but this term Walker has racked up a total of 34 appearances with QPR and Villa, and he has relished having an extended run. "It's been great," he added. "Everyone's been welcoming. Birmingham's a good city and it's only an hour away from my hometown of Sheffield so it's good. "To be fair, this is my first full season, as I was saying to some of the lads. I went to Sheffield United and got called back when I was at Tottenham and I only played two games for Tottenham but I did learn a lot down there. "Playing week-in, week-out is the only way you can learn and improve - that and training with the kind of players that Villa have got -so I'm just grateful to Villa for giving me the opportunity to do it."
