skysports.com can confirm.
Peru's captain, who can play anywhere down the left, has stated he is more than happy to remain in Florence, despite being linked with numerous moves this summer.
The likes of Juventus and Liverpool were believed to be interested, but now Villa are considering making a move for the 27-year-old.
Villa have lodged a bid for Wigan's Charles N'Zogbia but their initial offer has been shunned, and Alex McLeish is considering his options.
Whilst he contemplates upping his bid for N'Zogbia,
skysports.com understands that Vargas is also being considered.
But Villa are not the only side taking a close look at Vargas, as it is also understood that Tottenham are monitoring the situation.
Harry Redknapp knows all about Vargas as he almost signed him during his time in charge of Portsmouth
He is known to have kept abreast of his progress during the last few years and could be tempted to join the race for his signature.
