Striker understood to have signed until the end of the season
Skysports.com understands Newcastle have agreed a deal to sign Shefki Kuqi on a free transfer.
As revealed on Wednesday, Newcastle were lining up a deal for the Finnish forward to bolster their attacking options.
Kuqi is available on a free transfer after cancelling his contract at Swansea by mutual consent last month.
Magpies boss Alan Pardew made his move for Kuqi as he looks to replace Andy Carroll, who left for Liverpool, while Shola Ameobi has suffered serious injury.
Kuqi has a wealth of experience having played for Stockport, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Blackburn, Crystal Palace and Swansea during his career.
The 34-year-old is thought to have agreed a short-term deal until the end of the season at St James' Park.
Kuqi will join Leon Best, Nile Ranger and Peter Lovenkrands as Pardew's recognised forwards and he could go straight into the squad for this weekend's clash with former club Blackburn.
