Club offers incentive to get more fans through gate at St James'
Newcastle are looking to boost attendance figures by offering half-price season tickets with a view to making St James' Park an intimidating prospect for visiting teams.
The new initiative allows existing season-ticket holders to buy additional passes with a 50 per cent discount.
Supporters get an opportunity to see the remaining 14 home games at an average cost of £15, with children being able to attend for just £2.64.
A standard Gallowsgate season ticket cost £558 at the beginning of the campaign, but will now be available for £207.
The Magpies are yet to see a 52,339 capacity crowd despite an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, with Saturday's 1-0 win over Wigan keeping them in fourth place.
Managing director Derek Llambias hopes the offer will increase the strong 46,111 average attendance.
Atmosphere
"We have been delighted with the tremendous start we have made to the season so far, and the fantastic support of our fans," Llambias said in a statement.
"What we'd like to do now is encourage even more supporters to come to St James' Park and get behind the team.
"The atmosphere of a full house at Newcastle United is hard to beat and I know from talking to (manager) Alan (Pardew), his coaching staff and the players just how much it lifts the team and can give us the edge.
"We also know how difficult it is for many people to afford to follow the team, especially in the current economic climate.
"Our aim is to make supporting Newcastle United as affordable as possible for as many people as possible.
"On top of the 10-year price freeze we introduced in the summer, this is another initiative we are sure will be popular."
