Former Newcastle midfielder Ryan Taylor is in preliminary talks with Standard Liege, according to Sky sources.

The 30-year-old was released at the end of last season after five-and-a-half years on Tyneside and has also attracted interest from English clubs.

But he is currently discussing to the possibility of a move to Belgium, where Standard finished fourth in last season's Championship play-offs.

Taylor, who previously played for Tranmere and Wigan, started 65 league games during an injury-hit spell with Newcastle.
