City striker facing further spell on the sidelines

Manchester City's injury-prone striker Valeri Bojinov has picked up an Achilles problem. The Bulgaria international missed the majority of the 2007/08 campaign after rupturing knee ligaments in an early-season derby clash with Manchester United. He made an impressive return to action during pre-season, scoring a fantastic winner in a recent friendly against Italian giants AC Milan. As a result, the 22-year-old was looking forward to finally being given the chance to prove himself in English football. However, those dreams were shattered as he warmed up for City's opening Premier League game at Aston Villa. He was carried from the field by members of the Blues' coaching staff, before retuning to the bench for the start of the second half on crutches. The severity of the injury is not yet known, but early reports suggest that the former Fiorentina man could be sidelined for up to six months.
