Hughes confirms striker's move to Hertha fell through

Mark Hughes admits he will look to loan out Felipe Caicedo after the Manchester City striker missed out on a move to Hertha Berlin. Caicedo, who has yet to start a Premier League game for City after joining from Basel in January, had been lined up for a loan switch to Hertha. However, the German club pulled out of the deal on deadline day after signing Andriy Voronin on a season-long loan from Liverpool. City boss Hughes confirmed Caicedo was due to join Hertha and remains keen for the young Ecuador international to secure regular first-team football. "We may look at a loan situation for Felipe again," confirmed Hughes. "There was a deal for him to join Hertha Berlin, but in the last hour, they decided to go elsewhere."

Disappointing

Nery Castillo, who is on loan at City from Shakhtar Donetsk until January, was also expected to leave the club before the window shut. Real Betis had been hoping to sign the Mexico forward, but Hughes confirmed Castillo has joined Caicedo in returning to the City of Manchester Stadium. He added: "They have both come back to the club. "There were deals on the table we thought were going to be concluded, but in the end they weren't. "It is disappointing for both of them. We thought they were good opportunities, but in the end it wasn't to be."
