City striker vows to improve
Emmanuel Adebayor has promised Manchester City supporters they will soon see the best of him after a difficult first year at the club.
Adebayor's season has been overshadowed by the terrorist atrocity in Angola when the Togo team bus on which he was travelling came under attack.
The striker joined City last summer and enjoyed a fine start to the campaign before he found himself at the centre of controversy when former club Arsenal visited Eastlands in September.
As well as being retrospectively punished for a stamp on Robin van Persie, Adebayor was widely criticised for his goal celebration in front of the Arsenal fans.
The 26-year-old has since struggled to recapture his best form but hopes to come good over the next few weeks and fire City into Europe.
"This season has just passed by, and it's been difficult," he told the
Manchester Evening News.
"For me it has not only been the last month but the last few months.
"What happened in Angola made things difficult, what happened against Arsenal made things difficult, and then I got sent off at Stoke as well.
"But I have to try to forget all that now and try to help my team-mates. We need to get into that top four, then I can go on holiday, put everything behind me and come back fresh next season."
Aim
City are currently fifth in the table and must overhaul a two-point deficit on Tottenham if they are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, with Liverpool and Aston Villa also in contention.
Adebayor believes City should aim to win all seven of their remaining Premier League games.
He continued: "Hopefully the City fans will see the best of me next season, but for now I just want to do my best to get us into the Champions League.
"I want a big finish to the season, then I can fly away and see my family, knowing that when I come back we will be in the Champions League.
"If we win all seven games, there will be no doubt we will get in that top four, so that has to be the aim."
Vieira backing
Roberto Mancini has demanded more from Patrick Vieira after an unspectacular start to his City career and Adebayor has given his backing to the veteran midfielder.
He said: "He has been one of the best midfielders in this league and in the world.
"I know from our time at Arsenal that he will always look for the striker, so I try to make my runs in behind for his passes.
"We both speak French and have a good understanding on the pitch."
