Players warned not to incite trouble
Manchester police have warned players from both sides about their conduct ahead of Saturday's derby between United and City.
The police, who are also to impose a large-scale alcohol exclusion zone and increase patrols in Manchester city centre, are keen to avoid a repeat of crowd disturbances inside and out of the ground during the second leg of the Carling Cup semi-final between the two sides at Old Trafford.
Carlos Tevez and Gary Neville were involved in a much publicised spat during the Carling Cup clashes, with the City striker goading Neville after scoring in the first leg of the tie and Neville making a gesture back at the Argentine.
Police are keen to avoid any provocative player behaviour which may incite crowd trouble at Eastlands and they have spoken to both clubs in a bid to prevent a repeat of the disturbance.
"Our main aim is to ensure it is an enjoyable experience for all fans," assistant chief constable Ian Hopkins told the
Daily Mail.
"This is a high-profile fixture and we have been working closely with Manchester City Football Club to ensure the day passes off peacefully."
