Striker set for Sampdoria exit with Man City a reported target
Sampdoria president Riccardo Garrone has confirmed that there is no way back for Antonio Cassano.
The striker verbally abused Garrone after he ignored a request from the club to attend an awards ceremony and has since been dropped from Domenico Di Carlo's squad.
The Serie A outfit have asked Italian League authorities for consent to annul the 28-year-old's contract with immediate effect.
Although the former Roma, Bari and Real Madrid star later apologised in a TV interview, the club have decided to cut all ties with the Italy international.
Samp president Garrone has admitted that the latest conflict with Cassano has been a massive disappointment for him personally.
"Obviously Cassano is the best and without him, our team loses a lot," said Garrone.
"But we will move forward with our decision."
Manchester City and Fiorentina are both reportedly keeping a close eye on Cassano's situation.
