City ace keen to end club's trophy drought
Nigel de Jong insists one of the main reasons why he joined Manchester City was to help end their trophy drought.
City have gone 35 years without lifting a trophy, something the club's wealthy owners want to rectify sooner rather than later.
City's only hope of winning silverware this term is via the FA Cup and De Jong wants to be part of their success for years to come.
"That's the main reason I came to Manchester City," he told the
Manchester Evening News. "Everybody knew that.
"I want to be a big part of history at Manchester City. Success has to start somewhere, and any chance of silverware is welcome.
"You've got to feed that hunger among the team. That's why I came here - because I want to win a trophy."
Difficult
De Jong is on the comeback trail after a month out and he admits that he is still lacking somewhat in the fitness department.
"It's difficult to come back after more than a month out," he continued.
"Condition wise, I'm still lacking a little bit to be honest. But the injury is okay now.
"It's great for me to be back in the City squad now.
"I want to do the best for my team. I try to get everybody involved to get the spirit going."
