Manchester City have confirmed that defender Micah Richards has signed a new four-year contract with the club.

Defender commits long-term future to club

Manchester City have confirmed that defender Micah Richards has signed a new four-year contract with the club. Skysports.com revealed earlier on Saturday that Richards had put pen to paper on the deal, with his agent telling us of the player's delight. The news has now been officially announced by the club that Richards has committed his long-term future to City. Richards graduated through the academy before making his debut at the age of 17 in 2005. He quickly established himself as a first-team regular and has continued to make impressive progress over the past few years. Now 23, Richards remains an integral member of the side despite the fact that manager Roberto Mancini has had considerable funds available to bring in some of the world's best players. Richards is a versatile performer able to play in central defence, but it is at right-back that he has cemented a place in the team. Talks have been ongoing over a new contract for some time but he has now been rewarded with a new deal.
