Middlesbrough are in pole position to beat Newcastle to the loan signing of Liverpool winger Sheyi Ojo, according to Sky sources.

Boro boss Garry Monk is keen to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new Sky Bet Championship season, having already added midfielder Jonny Howson and defender Cyrus Christie to his squad.

Sky Sports News HQ understands Premier League side Newcastle remain very interested in signing Ojo, but have so far been frustrated in attempting to agree terms of the deal.

Ojo, who has previously spent time on loan at Wigan and Wolves, made just two FA Cup appearances for Liverpool last season and did not feature in the Premier League.
