Kaizer Chiefs keeper in demand
South African keeper Rowen Fernandez is attracting admiring glances from England.
Kaizer Chiefs keeper Rowen Fernandez is attracting admiring glances from England according to his agent, with Middlesbrough the most high-profile suitors for the 28-year-old.Fernandez played for South Africa when they faced Egypt at Brentford's Griffin Park last week, and despite Bafana Bafana losing 1-0 the shot-stopper saw his stock rise after the friendly tie.
Now the player's agent claims that Middlesbrough are currently interested in his client, along with Championship sides Coventry City and Stoke City.
Ryan Hartslief is currently in the English capital exploring avenues of possibility as he tries to secure the future of the player who is out of contract at the end of the season.
"I'm in London for the next three weeks exploring possibilities," Hartslief told Kick Off.
"Very soon we'll be able to start talks as Rowen's contract with Chiefs finishes at the end of this season.
"English Premiership side Middlesbrough as well as Championship sides Coventry City and Stoke City are all interested.
"But for now he's still a Chiefs player and we have to respect that."
Fernandez has moved to downplay talk of a move, insisting he is fully focused on his role with Kaizer Chiefs.
"At the moment I'm just trying to get over losing in the Telkom Cup and getting back to the challenge of the Premier League race," said Fernandez.
"That's my focus right now and nothing else."
