Andrew Taylor is weighing up where his future lies after Watford made an offer for the Middlesbrough full-back.
Taylor has impressed on loan with the Hornets this season before returning to Boro earlier this month.
The 24-year-old was handed his first league start of the season for Boro in Saturday's 4-0 win at Bristol City, when he performed well in an unfamiliar midfield role.
And the former England Under 21 international revealed after the game that he was already mulling over whether to make a permanent move to the fellow Championship outfit.
"It's been very difficult for me and especially over the last week, when I didn't really know what I was doing," Taylor told the
Evening Gazette.
"I didn't know if I was signing for Watford permanently or if I was coming back here and I still really don't know what my future is to be honest.
"I'm not too sure what is best for me now but I've got a bit of time to think about it.
"They (Watford) want me to go back down there," he added. "I loved my time down there and I love the manager down there so that is a possibility.
"But obviously Boro is something in my heart. I've been here all my career and had some good times so there is a lot to think about."
A major factor in Taylor's thinking is Boro's change in manager since he left for Watford in late August.
The academy product was frozen out by Gordon Strachan but has earned the faith of new boss Tony Mowbray.
"I'm not going to lie, I didn't really get on with Gordon Strachan," he said. "I didn't enjoy my time here when he was in charge and that's why I left.
Better atmosphere
"I didn't expect to be back at Middlesbrough, if I'm honest, but the gaffer (Mowbray) wanted me back to have a look at me on the training pitch.
"It must have gone reasonably well for me because he gave me a start at Bristol and I thought I did okay.
"That's why there is so much to think about. There have been massive changes here. It's completely different now the gaffer is in.
"The atmosphere is a lot better, training is a lot better and hopefully we can start picking up better results too."
