Mowbray contemplates German deal

Middlesbrough are keen to seal a deal for Bayern Munich reserve captain Maximilian Haas, according to Germany sources. The 25-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, is understood to be a target for Tony Mowbray - as he looks to bolster his squad in the January transfer window. Having sold David Wheater, he does have room for defensive reinforcements, and Haas could be that option. Haas moved to Bayern in 2007 from Freising and is yet to play for the first team, although he was promoted to the senior squad by Louis van Gaal in the summer - but all his action has been with the reserves. Now Werner Kern, youth director of Bayern Munich, has admitted Haas could be on his way. "We are aware of that and we do not plan to put any obstacles in Maximilian's way," Kern told kicker-Sportmagazin. "We are, however, still to receive a concrete bid from Middlesbrough for his services." Haas' current deal is due to expire in the summer, and Boro look keen to take him on loan with a view to a permanent deal at the end of the season.
