Euro 2012-bound defender focused on Premier League push

Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Kelly wants to guide Fulham to a top-eight finish before switching his attention to Euro 2012. The Cottagers currently sit ninth in the Premier League after impressing under the stewardship of Martin Jol, who arrived in the summer as Mark Hughes' successor. An impressive return of 10 points from their last four matches has lifted Fulham to 46 points as they crank up the pressure on Everton and Liverpool. The west London side are aiming to overhaul the Merseyside pair and could even equal their highest top-flight finish of seventh. "We've been playing well and if we can continue our good form, and the good performances we've been putting in, then there's no reason why we can't get to 50 points," said full-back Kelly. "We'll be looking to finish in the top eight which is definitely achievable with the points we're on and the games coming up. "Then once the season has finished, I'll have an eye on the Euros."

Privilege

Kelly, who could return to action this weekend following a wrist injury, is set to be part of Giovanni Trapattoni's 23-man squad for this summer's tournament in Poland and Ukraine. He won the latest of his 29 caps as the Republic thrashed Estonia 4-0 in the first leg of their November play-off. "It's a major tournament and I'm so lucky and so privileged to be involved," he told Fulham's official website. "The season is coming to a close and having that to look forward to is amazing."
