Championship: Fulham boss Kit Symons admits draw at Wigan was a point gained

Fulham boss Kit Symons admitted the 3-3 Sky Bet Championship draw at Wigan was one point gained rather than two dropped.
In a pulsating game at the DW Stadium the Cottagers recovered from going a goal down to lead 2-1 at the break, only for substitute Shaun Maloney to nose Wigan ahead inside the last 10 minutes.
But there was to be one final twist as Fulham - a man down following the sending-off of Ross McCormack - released Hugo Rodallega, who was brought down in the area for a penalty.
After Leon Barnett had been shown a red card for a professional foul, Bryan Ruiz stepped up to notch his second goal and ensure a share of the spoils.
"It was an entertaining affair - I think the Wigan fans and our supporters who travelled would be quite happy with their entertainment," Symons said.
"There are two ways of looking at the result.
"To be 2-1 up at half-time leaves you a little bit disappointed not to win the game.
"But to be 3-2 down and a man light inside the last 10 minutes, you'd take a point so that's what we'll be focusing on."
It was an eventful way for Symons to begin his reign as Fulham boss, having been given the job full-time in midweek.
"I don't think I'll last too long if they're all like that," he said.
"It was similar to Rotherham a few weeks ago when we were behind three times but fought back.
"There's some real character in this squad, and the resilience was on show once again.
"The three things I always talk about are trust, honesty and belief, and they were there in abundance today.
"I was as amazed as anyone to see us sitting there on one point from the first seven games with the quality in the squad.
"It beggared belief, but I can't do anything about what went on before.
"What I can say is that the players have responded well, and I will keep challenging them to raise that bar."
On the flip side, Wigan boss Uwe Rosler's body language suggested the result was being treated far more as a negative than a positive.
"We should have got the three points," the German said.
"But our defenders were showing Rodallega too much respect, were dropping too deep, leaving too much space in three.
"Fulham used that well, their wide players came inside and we were not at our best.
"The good thing is we came back from behind like we did at Derby last week.
"We have more grit in the side, and we are mentally stronger than we were.
"When you go into the lead inside the last 10 minutes, you should win the game.
"But there was no pressure on the ball, we stayed high and let people in get behind us.
"At this level you shouldn't be talking about making mistakes like that."
