Warren Joyce says the opportunity to become manager of the Wigan was simply too good to turn down.

And Joyce says he received the full backing of Jose Mourinho when he decided to leave his post as manager of Manchester United U23s.

Joyce was named the new Latics boss on Wednesday evening, following the sacking of Gary Caldwell, and he will take charge for the first time when Wigan host Reading on Saturday.

And Joyce told Sky Sports News HQ: "I think it is a really good opportunity for myself.

"Obviously I have been speaking to the owners and the aims match mine. My gut feeling was they were the type of people I would want to work for and do well for, and leave a legacy that you have left your mark on Wigan.
