Wigan striker Conor Sammon is confident his team can drag themselves out of trouble this season.
The 24-year-old made his Latics debut following a January move from Kilmarnock on Saturday during the 1-0 defeat at Manchester City.
Wigan fought valiantly at Eastlands but are now rock-bottom of the Premier League after a howler from goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi gifted City the win.
Roberto Martinez's men have nine games to save themselves but despite being four points from safety, Sammon is adamant they can avoid the drop.
Confident
"It's definitely possible to stay up," he told the club's
official website. "We've got a confident bunch of lads here at the club and we take it one game at a time.
"I'm very confident I can help the team and provide some goals, and if I can do that I'll be delighted. I'm also very focused on the job in hand and I am eager to help the team progress up the league table.
"When you get an opportunity off the bench it's a great chance to show what you can do and stake a claim for a permanent place, and I'm looking forward to the next game when I can hopefully I keep pushing.
"We definitely have enough quality and fight in this side and I believe we can prove that by turning our good performances into positive results."
Wigan next take to the field for a crunch encounter with Birmingham City in the league on 19th March.
