Sky Bet Championship: Wigan lose high court battle with ticketing firm

Struggling Championship club Wigan have tasted FA Cup defeat for the second time in a month.

The Latics - who won the cup in 2013 after beating Manchester City in the final - have lost a High Court fight with a ticketing firm three weeks after being knocked out of this year's competition in a third-round tie at Bolton.

Ticket2Final claimed the club had breached an agreement to provide "sufficient tickets" for the 2013 FA Cup semi-final, when Wigan beat Millwall 2-0 at Wembley, and the 2013 final.

A judge ruled in favour of the ticketing company, which had claimed damages for misrepresentation and breach of contract, after a High Court trial in London.

Deputy High Court Judge John Baldwin indicated a damages award would be finalised later and pointed to the figure being in the tens of thousands of pounds.

Wigan, who are in the Championship relegation zone, had disputed Ticket2Final's claim, saying its representation to the firm was not "false".
